FACULTY
Anne QUEFFELEC
Master-class

Daughter and sister of writers, Anne Queffélec inherited a name that she chose to reveal through the keyboard. After her musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, where she was awarded prizes in both piano and chamber music, Ms. Queffélec moved on to Vienna to study with Badura-Skoda, Demus and particularly Alfred Brendel.

The successes garnered in international competitions, including Munich (unanimous 1st prize in 1968) and Leeds (prize in 1969), propel her towards a career as a soloist, collaborating with brilliant conductors such as Boulez, Zinman, Gardner, Conlon, Jordan, Foster, Janowski... in the company of such prestigious orchestras as the London Symphony, the New Philharmonia of Prague, the Sinfonia Varsovia, etc. She has performed multiple times at the London "Proms," and in France, at the Grange de Meslay, Strasbourg, Besancon, Dijon, Bordeaux, the Folles Journées de Nantes. In 2003, at the Roque d'Anthéron, she gave a series of six concerts of the complete Mozart Sonatas, broadcast live on France Musiques. She also collaborated on the sound track for Amadeus, under the baton of Sir Neville Marriner.

Crowned Interpreter of the Year at the 1990 Victoires de la Musique, Queffélec favors an eclectic repertoire that charters her vast emotional universe. Her discography of more than thirty records encompasses works by Scarlatti, Schubert, Liszt, Debussy, Beethoven, Fauré, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Satie, as well as the complete piano works of Ravel and Dutilleux.

Ms. Queffélec is currently on the piano faculty of the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.

"She places her hands on the keyboard, and it is the evidence of a talent that holds the listener suspended by its acuity, and moves the listener by an elevation of sentiment worthy of the greatest." - Le Monde
